Audubon named this wren after Thomas Bewick, the wood engraver from Northumberland whose History of British Birds was a standard book of its day. The two men met in Newcastle in 1827.
It is a slim, long-tailed wren of western and southern North America, with a white stripe over the eye.
Based on plate 18 of Audubon's The Birds of America.
