Red-breasted Nuthatch

Plate 105 shows a pair of red-breasted nuthatches. Like the nuthatch in British gardens, it is one of the few birds that can climb down a tree trunk head first.

It lives mainly in conifer forest across Canada and the northern United States.

Based on plate 105 of Audubon's The Birds of America.
