Wren
Tiny, loud and one of Britain's commonest birds.
About the wren
The wren is one of the commonest breeding birds in Britain, though it is easy to miss as it creeps through hedge bottoms with its tail cocked. Its song is astonishingly loud for a bird that weighs about ten grams.
The wren appeared on the British farthing from 1937 until the coin was withdrawn in 1960.
Based on plate 63, volume 2 of John Gould's The Birds of Great Britain.
